Many people may not think to question how the sound comes out of their
home theater systems and speakers. The key to generating sound through
a speaker, however, can be relatively simple once one knows how magnetism
relates to sound. Watch the video for a better look.
Every speaker—from wireless surround sound speakers to small ear
buds—uses a small magnet and electromagnetic coil. The sound generates
an electric current with the coil and magnet, which then moves the speaker’s
fabric housing. This movement generates the soundwaves that everyone hears
while listening to music or watching a movie.
